In his new role, he will lead Blackstone’s cybersecurity strategy across the Asia-Pacific region, overseeing cyber risk management, security operations, cloud security, application security, AI governance, threat intelligence, regulatory compliance, and enterprise cyber resilience to safeguard the firm’s critical digital assets and business operations.
Prior to joining Blackstone, he served as Chief Information Security Officer & IT Head – APAC at Rakuten, where he led cybersecurity and IT strategy across the region. During his tenure, he established secure software development practices by integrating security into the SDLC and CI/CD pipelines, implemented SAST, DAST, penetration testing, and bug bounty programs, built a 24×7 Security Operations Center (SOC), strengthened vulnerability management, and led red team and blue team exercises. He also spearheaded AI governance initiatives aligned with the NIST AI Risk Management Framework and ISO/IEC 42001, implemented enterprise-wide data governance, drove ISO 27001 compliance, and deployed cloud security technologies including CASB, CSPM, DLP, EDR, and CyberArk to strengthen the organization’s overall security posture.
Earlier, he served as Head – Cyber Security Defense & Operations at Williams Lea Tag, where he led incident response, cyber threat intelligence, vulnerability management, application security, SIEM implementation, and cyber risk management across India and the UK. He established comprehensive incident response frameworks, managed large SOC teams, conducted cyber resilience exercises, and developed proactive threat intelligence capabilities.
Before that, he was Senior Manager – Cyber Threat Management at Tata Communications, leading cybersecurity engineering initiatives focused on cyber threat intelligence, SIEM integration, automation, vulnerability management, and application security.
He also spent nearly nine years at Wells Fargo as IT Security Architect, specializing in cyber risk identification, threat monitoring, vulnerability management, and enterprise security architecture, helping strengthen the organization’s cybersecurity capabilities across its global operations.
With more than 17 years of experience spanning cybersecurity leadership, information security, security operations, application security, cloud security, AI governance, cyber threat intelligence, incident response, vulnerability management, and enterprise risk management, Vijay brings extensive expertise in building resilient security programs and driving cybersecurity transformation across global organizations.
