Smitesh Valanju has taken on the role of Global CISO at Tata Communications, where he will lead the company’s cybersecurity vision and strengthen cyber resilience across global operations. 

In his new position, he will be responsible for driving Tata Communications’ global cybersecurity strategy, enhancing enterprise resilience, safeguarding critical digital infrastructure, and advancing trust-based security frameworks across the organization. 

Prior to joining Tata Communications, he served as Group Chief Information Security Officer at Tata Digital, leading cybersecurity initiatives across the group’s digital businesses and platforms. 

Earlier, he held CISO roles at Croma and Tata CLiQ, where he oversaw cyber risk management, governance, and the security of customer-facing digital ecosystems. 

He also served as Vice President – Technology Information Security Officer at Virtusa, leading enterprise security transformation programs and governance initiatives. 

Before that, he was Head of Cyber Security at Vodafone and Vice President – Security and Infrastructure Shared Services at Essar Group, where he played a key role in strengthening security operations and infrastructure governance. 

Earlier in his career, he co-founded Paraphora LLC and served as its Chief Technology Officer. He also worked as a Senior Consultant in Technology and Security Risk across the telecom and healthcare sectors and held IT leadership positions at CDSL – Central Depository Services (India) Ltd. and Applied Technologies International. 

With nearly 30 years of experience spanning cybersecurity, infrastructure, risk management, telecommunications, digital commerce, and enterprise technology, Smitesh brings extensive expertise in building secure, scalable, and resilient organizations while enabling business growth and digital innovation.
