Barracuda Networks has launched Barracuda AI Data Security, which it calls the industry’s first AI security and governance solution for resource-constrained businesses and managed service providers (MSPs). The tool will help them adopt AI while protecting data and demonstrating compliance.
The governance gap
Businesses are adopting AI faster than they can govern it. New findings from Barracuda Research show that nearly half of senior IT leaders say their teams lack the skills to govern AI already in use securely. IBM’s Cost of a Data Breach Report 2026 adds to concerns: 68% of organizations that suffered a breach lacked policies to manage AI or detect shadow AI.
Neal Bradbury, Chief Product Officer at Barracuda, said, “Organizations need a practical way to secure AI as a new attack surface, protect sensitive data, enforce responsible use, and demonstrate compliance.”
What it does
Built on the BarracudaONE platform and powered by the Barracuda IQ AI engine, the solution covers more than 1,300 generative AI tools, including Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini.
- Data protection: Blocks customer data, passwords, financial records and proprietary code from reaching GenAI services, with no initial configuration.
- Threat detection: Stops prompt injection, jailbreak attempts and hate speech, aligned to the OWASP LLM Top 10.
- Audit trail: Captures every AI interaction, with one-click exports for insurers and auditors.
- Flexible policies: Sets rules by team, tool and data type.
Designed for smaller teams
Most AI security offerings are designed for large enterprises, leaving smaller firms facing complexity, skill gaps, and high costs. This solution deploys in minutes, uses familiar firewall-style workflows, and offers guided setup through the Bailey AI assistant. MSPs get centralized multitenant management and bundled pricing.
Geoff Turner, CEO of Elevate Technology Group, said businesses need controls that are “simple, scalable and built for real-world environments.”
The India view
Parag Khurana, Country Manager, India at Barracuda, said, “In a market where AI is becoming a competitive advantage, having the right foundations in place will be critical to turning ambition into long-term business value.”
